Drainage Project Update – Great news
David Angello (Town Board member & Preserve HOA VP) met with the Town of Pompey, Onondaga County Department of Water Environment Protection, and JJ Lane Construction to discuss the drainage project contract, schedule, and execution of work on Tuesday, September 27. The long-awaited drainage project will commence between 10/7 – 10/14 with a targeted completion date of Thanksgiving 2022.
The first two areas of focus will be the piping leading to the drainage pond and the road. The first will be the drainage piping farthest from the drainage. This is located between 4345 and 4347 Winding Creek Road with the purpose of allowing the water in the main drainage area to drain more rapidly once it has larger piping to follow. The second will be digging up the road between 4340 and 4350 Winding Creek Road to allow the underground piping diameter to be increased.
The biggest part of the project is where the back yards join the drainage area between Winding Creek Road and Preserve Parkway. This area will then be dug up. The piping will be replaced, covered, and connected to the rest of the drainage system emptying into the drainage retention pond.
The last part of the draining work will be in the upper area of the neighborhood between Preserve Parkway and Upper Winding Creek Road.
There will be construction workers and a site supervisor from JJ Lane on site throughout the project. The Onondaga County Department of Water Environment Protection will be managing the work. The Town of Pompey Highway Supervisor, Town Engineer, and Codes Officer will also be onsite at different times to oversee the project.
Homeowner Action Required
1. Please identify (using a survey stake and marking tape) any piping coming from your house emptying into the drainage swale. The stake should be located where the pipe enters the drainage. These piping systems might include but are not limited to your sump pump piping, downspout or drain to daylight systems. The idea of you marking these systems is to make it easier for the contractor to tie in all such systems to the newly renovated drainage system. If you don’t take the time to mark these out and the contractor doesn’t find them, you are entirely likely to have them missed and not connected to the system. If this does happen and you realize after the project is completed there will be NO WAY to connect them to the system. Therefore, it is very important to take the time to find these systems and mark them. There is no way for the design engineer to know where everyone’s systems are located.
2. Please stay away from the construction site. This includes keeping your dogs, cats, children, and toys away from the work areas. The construction team will be using large equipment and we want to do everything we can as a neighborhood to keep a safe site.
3. Understand your back yards near the drainage area will be dug up and look like a construction site. The plan will be to hydro seed in the spring. Until then, the area will look like work was done and a functioning drainage system installed but there will be no grass. The more tedious site work will be completed in the spring.
4. If you have an invisible fence for your dogs, please be sure to mark its location (if it is close to the work site) so the construction crew doesn’t inadvertently dig it up.
5. If you see something or feel something isn’t right, please talk to the crew from JJ Lane Construction who will be on site doing the work.

Children’s Halloween Parade!
Bring your kids dressed in costumes to Future Lane (Dead end road off Winding Creek Rd) on Saturday October 29th at 10:30 am. Cider and donuts will be provided after the parade as well as a hay ride! The Lipe hay ride was a staple in the Preserve for many years and we are happy for its return! Our development was once the home of the Lipe family dairy farm.
